Advocacy

We are currently working on the following:

1) Lobbying the NSW Department of Education to improve the quality of deaf education. See the summary of our campaign to date. If you have any stories of situations that have not been the best for deaf children we would love to hear from you. Please contact us if you are interested in working with us on this campaign.

2) Commerical Truck Licences for Deaf drivers. We have asked the National Transport Authority to consider revising the medical standards they have for deaf drivers.

3) Productivity Places Program (PPP). This program allows people who are job seeking to do free study. However there is no provision for funding for interpreters if you are deaf and wanting to study at a private college. We are seeking stories from deaf people who have tried to enrol in a course and been knocked back because of lack of funds for interpreting.

If you have an issue or something that is limiting your access to community life, please contact us and we can help advocate with you. If you have time and energy to spare and would like to help us, we would love to hear from you!

We also acknowledge the hard work and support of our various subcommittees.
